For clients & families

What happens after the bond is posted.

Getting someone out is step one. Keeping the bond in good standing is what protects the co-signer and keeps the case on track.

Your responsibilities

Four things that keep a bond from going wrong.

  1. Attend every setting

Every one, on time, in appropriate dress. A missed setting is the single most common way a bond turns into a forfeiture and a bench warrant.

  2. Check in as required

Report to the bonding office or the supervising officer on schedule. Tell us before a check-in is going to be missed, not after.

  3. Follow the court's conditions

No prohibited substances, submit to testing where ordered, and observe any no-contact or travel restrictions. Leaving the state or country requires written permission.

  4. Keep your contact details current

If a phone number, address or employer changes, tell us the same week. Most avoidable problems start with a court or agency not being able to reach someone.

About to miss a court date? Call us first, at 281-900-2404. A setting handled in advance is a far smaller problem than a forfeiture discovered later.

For co-signers

What you took on when you signed — in plain language.

Financial responsibility

If the defendant fails to appear, the co-signer is responsible for the bond amount and for any unpaid premium. This is the part every co-signer should understand before signing.

Collateral, if any

Where collateral was required, it is held until the bond is discharged and then returned. We document what was pledged and on what terms.

You can raise a concern

If you believe the defendant is not going to appear, or circumstances change, tell us early. There are options while the bond is still in good standing; there are very few afterwards.
