Most Galveston County arrests route through the county jail, but city arrests, warrants, transfer bonds, and personal bond hearings each have different timing.

Galveston Police Department

The city agency. GPD officers patrol and make arrests inside Galveston city limits. Its public office is the Joe Max Taylor Law Enforcement Building at 601 54th Street, Galveston, TX 77551.

GPD does not operate a jail of its own, so the people it arrests are booked into the county jail.

Galveston County Sheriff's Office

The county agency. It covers unincorporated areas and countywide duties, and it operates the Galveston County Jail at 5700 Ball Street, Galveston, TX 77551.

Booking, custody records, and the physical release are handled on the jail's side, not by any bonding company.

Same jail either way

This is the part that confuses most families: it does not much matter which agency made the arrest. City police, sheriff's deputies, constables, and most other local agencies all deliver to the same county jail.

So you can stop calling around. One jail, one inmate search, one place to post the bond.

Three steps, whichever agency arrested them.

Find the person

Use the official inmate inquiry or call us with the full name and date of birth. If they are still in booking, the public listing may lag behind the jail.

Use the inmate-search guide

Confirm the bond

The court or magistrate sets the bond amount and any release conditions. We verify what is actually posted before quoting a fee.

What to have ready

Post and wait for release

Paperwork can move quickly; physical release is controlled by the jail, staffing, shift changes, and booking volume.
